Painting my memory of the awe-inspiring in nature seen in my travels as well as at home. Artworks evolve over time through meditations, music, intuition with additions and subtractions of shapes, colors, and textures as paintings gradually refine to essential patterns, shapes, textures, and color juxtapositions. Virtually every inch of each painting is worked and reworked, often multiple times, as layered colors and textures build. Texture is created through gestural brush strokes and scratching back into layers of paint or adding white tissue paper or other materials to the canvas and then layering paint over the material. There is a rhythm of color masses and brush strokes that may be discerned in the paintings reflecting musical favorites which include popular music as well as opera choruses and arias and other classical music. I like to think the resulting rich and textured surfaces create transcendent moments for myself and hopefully for others.
